Who runs this site
originstack.site is the website of OriginStack, a free, open-source astrophotography program, run by Tom Davenport. For any question about this policy or your data, open an issue on GitHub.
Visit statistics: GoatCounter
The site counts visits with GoatCounter to see which pages are read and which downloads are used. GoatCounter sets no cookies and does not track you across sites. For each page view it records the page, the referring site, your browser, operating system and screen size, and your country, derived from your IP address. It does not store your IP address. To count unique visits it keeps a short-lived hash for a few hours. Clicks on download links are counted the same way. The figures are seen only in aggregate. See GoatCounter's privacy policy.
Advertising: Google AdSense
Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense, which helps pay for the project. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for consent before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used, through Google's consent message. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy and cookie settings link that message adds to the page. Without consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses data from sites that show its ads is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Hosting: GitHub Pages
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log your IP address when you request a page, for security and to keep the service running, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Downloads and the latest-version lookup on the home page are served by GitHub as well. The fonts are served from this site, not from Google Fonts.
The OriginStack app
The desktop app has no account, no telemetry and no advertising, and the site owner receives no data from it. It goes online only for specific lookups, each sent straight to a public service: a target name it does not recognise (SIMBAD), the sky coordinates of your field for star catalogues (Gaia, VizieR), a comet's name for its ephemeris (JPL Horizons), and an anonymous check of GitHub for a newer version. Your images stay on your computer unless you choose the astrometry.net plate solver with your own API key, which uploads the image to astrometry.net to solve it.
The README's network section lists each request and what it sends. Run the app with --offline, or tick Offline in the app, to turn off the lookups; set ORIGINSTACK_NO_UPDATE_CHECK to turn off the version check.
Your rights
This site does not ask for your name, email address or any account, and the site owner holds no personal data about you beyond the aggregate statistics above. Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its use. For data held by Google or GitHub, use their controls and contacts linked above. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
